This week I worked straight through from Saturday (9/11) to… today, (9/17) in order to help get the OpenCV AI Kit - Lite campaign out the door. I was originally contracted to do not just the launch video, but the daily campaign updates and create content beyond the launch, but, well... let’s just say someone embarrassed themselves and it wasn’t me. I think the video turned out pretty good despite only having about 10 days to write, shoot, edit, and narrate it. I got to write “Together we can defeat He-man” in an official communication and that is some bucket list stuff right there.
Oink Oink
To celebrate I got myself the present of a new, tiny, guitar amp. The brand is called Pignose, they’ve been around since the 70s and are pretty well known for being solid, rugged, portable amps. They have a fun distortion that pairs perfectly with Telecaster-type guitars like my G&L ASAT Bluesboy. I played a little bit over coffee this AM:
Listen to that dirty twang! It’s a really kickass cigar-box-style amp. The thing runs on 6 AA batteries and has room to stash a cable inside. Perfect for the wandering bard.
RetroStrange Movie Night IRL #2 & Shirts!
Thanks to all of youse who tuned in to RSMN IRL 2, wherein we watched Gammera The Invincible. A good time was had by all, thanks to On Base Productions for hosting us! We’ll be back in a couple weeks live at the NODE.
There are RetroStrange shirts, now. Shirts each come with a download code for RetroStrange Mixtape Vol. 1, too! This first run costs $10, because Chuck kinda fucked up the screen print. Go ask him if you want one.
The Good Links Are Short This Week
Seasons don’t fear the reaper.
GOG has the hilariously bad Star Trek: Insurrection followup game for sale, it’s quite the thing
The Carolina Panthers debuted a new AR animation and it is bizarrely aggressive, overly long, and doesn’t look great. I bet the middle-managers LOVED it
“Loading BASIC programs from cassette tape to the Sega Master System” hell yes
Like most things Elon, it’s bluster without a lot of substance: Elon Musk’s Starlink Won’t Be the Game Changer You Think
Playable Quotes for the Game Boy is an amazing project: Think of it like GIFs for actual video games. With it, you can share specific moments of a game with someone via a ROM save state. They do some very clever things to make it work.
The state censorship in Hong Kong continues to get much worse
I’m almost through Season 2 of Family Matters. Honestly the performances from Urkel actor Jaleel White are extremely underrated. It’s a very classic Buster Keaton / Groucho Marx / Jerry Lewis style and I appreciate it more as 2021 adult than I did as a kid. He nails his shit. May you all nail your shit next week. Until then!
