Last time on Phil’s newsletter way back in May: We went to Levi’s stadium, spoke at Microsoft Build, and bought an iPad

Hello, Hurray
It’s been really hard to find time to write in my newsletter. Not because my life is more full but because I’m trying to do… less… stuff overall. I started feeling overloaded again, and last time that happened my brain was kind of broken for several years, so I decided I needed to quit doing a bunch of stuff. Divergent League Baseball and this newsletter were on the chopping block, hence why it’s been *checks imaginary notes* 200-some days since I last posted here. Instead of recapping the last most-of-a-year let’s leave the history and pick up the vibes of where we left off. I like how vibes looks in italics. Vibes.

RetroStrange Movie Night: Hot Rod Double Feature
As announced on The Official RetroStrange Blog *turns toward imaginary camera, thumbs up, smile* our next Movie Night is February 18th and features two high-octane tales of hot roddery. I made a trailer for the episode which is now on YouTube.
Like everything we do at RetroStrange our Movie Night series has no ads, uses no trackers, is community-supported and fully independent. You can support RetroStrange on Patreon, or by buying some of the merch I designed!
The Sound of Science
I bought a USB 3 1/4-inch disk drive a few years ago, but haven’t used it much since all I had on floppy until recently was SimAnt. After splurging on a copy of X-Com for DOS on 3 floppies, now is the time. Since I’m practically swimming in audio gear, I had to document the soothing mechanical sounds of the drive with my fancy microphones. I very slightly denoised and amplified the recording to bring you the following recording of Disk 2 which I hereby release into the public domain, use it as you will:
You can grab the MP3 file directly from my blog.

Some Dusting P*rn For You
I, like a lot of people, have been posting more on Mastodon after finally hitting the tipping point of enough of my favorite Twitter follows joining the fediverse to make it worthwhile. Yes we’re still calling it “fediverse.” I think it sounds like a CIA virtual reality headset. Anyway I spent some time this weekend cleaning up around my wizard tower, and documented the Before and After on my Mastodon account at wrestling.social
Quick Hits
I started playing Fallout 76, hit me up
Expect a lot of MiniDisc content, I got a MiniDisc player and recorder
